Synopsis

This film describes the creative process of the painter Mathieu Sodore, who resides in Lisbon, as he creates a series of large-format paintings inspired by flamenco styles and depicting partial faces. The aim is to capture his feelings, thoughts, and decisions from the first stroke that covers the white canvas to the moment of signing. It shows how painting is not only a visual art but also a sonic and tactile one. Furthermore, we discover the extent to which the studio is the painter's cell, cave, and temple. Meanwhile, his voice offers us a reflection on his artistic career, on painting, and an approach to the art of portraiture.
